To God all glory, praise, and love
be now and ever given
by saints below and saints above,
the Church in earth and heaven.
Let my mouth be filled with Your praise and with Your glory all the day. (Ps. 71:8)
The Psalmist is confident that God is with him in the troubles he is facing because he has experienced God’s hand intervening on his behalf in years past. Before making his request, he praises and honors God, His shelter and protection. God is his fortified tower (v. 3). El-Shaddai, God Almighty, imparts hope and safety, comforting the longings of his soul. The arms of God are an open door to His shelter, always open, always accessible. God is his refuge, providing comfort and hope with the promise of eternal life. As a result, his mouth is filled with praise arising from a heart of worship. To praise God is to render adoration to God and to magnify Him in word and song with gratitude. To proclaim or speak of God’s glory is to praise, honor, and admire Him, not for His aesthetic beauty but for the beauty that emanates from His character, from Who He is.
God created us for His glory (Is. 43:7). We proclaim His glory with the words of our mouth, the song in our heart, our love for Him and our love for one another. We praise Him for Who He is—Creator, I AM. When we live our lives in fellowship with Him, faithfully serving Him, we are giving Him glory (Jn. 14:7). The more we know of our Creator, the more we love Him and the better we understand our life’s purpose: to bring Him glory. He has given each one of us a unique plan and purpose that we may not know, but we can be sure that the ultimate end is the glory of God.
Have you seen God intervening in your life in the past? It is critical that you realize this for how can you trust Him to be there for you in today’s troubles if you cannot recognize Him in the past? Think back to a time when you were in love. Remember how you couldn’t stop talking about him? Your mind continually drifting back to him. You gave him your utmost love and respect, unwilling that anything should come in the way of your undeniable love for him. You were willing to make sacrifices just to be with him. This is the kind of love God wants you to have for Him. He hates sin. Do you? He speaks to you in the Spirit and in prayer. Do you speak to Him in the Spirit and in prayer? Today is your day to rekindle the flame that once burned bright within your soul. Sing it out, “To God all glory, praise, and love be now and ever given by saints below and saints above, the Church in earth and heaven.”
