8-6 Jesus Loves Me

Listen to Jesus Loves Me

Jesus loves me still today,
Walking with me on my way

And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed. (Deut. 31:8)

Moses assures Israel that God will be with them as they enter Canaan. The One who brought them out of bondage in Egypt and went before them in the wilderness, will now go with them into the Promised Land. This is true for all of God’s children. “For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’”(Heb. 13:5). In bondage, in confusion, and in hope, God will be with His people. Believers can be confident that the Good Shepherd will be with them to guide and direct, to strengthen and to protect them. He will walk beside them. He will never abandon nor neglect His children.

What a blessed truth: “Jesus Loves Me.” He is walking beside us all the way. The poem, “Footprints in the Sand”, is about Jesus walking beside us in good times, and holding us near to His heart when times are rough, “in the wilderness where you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son . . . (Deut. 1:31):

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”

He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”

Are you in bondage, in the wilderness, or are you hopeful for the future? Whatever season you are in today, you can be sure that God is with you. Won’t you thank Him for His unfailing love? Would you thank Him for His promise to never leave you nor forsake you? Remind yourself, right now, that “Jesus loves me still today, walking with me on my way.”
