Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be till I die.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Ro. 8:31)
“Who can be against us?” This question implies hostility toward the Christian. The world, the sinner, the devil—even the believer’s own heart—are against him. The Bible announces it, observation validates it, and experience proves it. But what does it matter when God is on the Christian’s side? No power, no enemy, no challenge will succeed when the believer engages the Lamb of God to bring him victory in the battle. The opposition cannot prevail. God has manifested His love by the gift of Himself, given His Son to save, and the Holy Spirit to guide.
If God gave us His Son, what gift will He deny? God is for us, calling us to repentance and faith in Jesus. His Son is for us, proven by His grace and glory. When we were lost in sin, He was offering us the gift of salvation. The Holy Spirit is for us, reviving us when we were dead, teaching us in our ignorance, and comforting us in our distress. We who sought earthly treasures now seek to lay up our treasures in heaven. We who sought worldly success now seek a life vested in Christ. We who served our fleshly lusts now deny our flesh that we may serve the Lord. We who vainly hoped in man have found unwavering hope in Jesus. Even death, our final enemy, is swallowed up in victory when our life is hidden with Christ in God. Though friends may scorn and disappoint us, we have a Friend who sticks closer than a brother, a Friend whose last words were: “I am with you always; even to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20). The things of earth become dim in light of His glory and grace.
Won’t you be cleansed under that fountain, crushed and opened at the cross, purified by Immanuel’s blood? Love for you flowed through His every pore when He prayed in that Garden, when the whip tore open His back, when the crown pierced His head, when His hands and feet were nailed to the cross. This wellspring of cleansing blood, fresh, abundant, and pure, has been opened to you. The message is clear: He would sooner die than you should perish in eternity apart from Him. Jesus’ heart beats with infinite love towards you. He is the One who called you when you were hostile, purified you when you were guilty, and sanctified you when you were depraved. Do you know this deep in your soul? Behold, now is the time to thank Him as you proclaim, “Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.”
