There is a fountain filled with blood,
Drawn from Immanuel’s veins,
. . .To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood. (Rev. 1:5)
His love, proven by His blood. The original text reads “To Him who loveth [loves] us” . . . Jesus’ love is timeless—past, present, and future. John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, writes to the believer, whom Jesus loves. He tells the child of God that anyone can be as close to Jesus as he was—the one who lay his head on Jesus’ chest, heard His heartbeat, close friend of Jesus. John is writing to all Christians in all generations about the permanence and breadth of Jesus’ present love borne out of His Divine nature. A love that will never die for it lasts forever. Present, permanent, sweet, and expansive. He did love. He does love. He will love.
Jesus loves us always. He poured out His blood as proof. We feel the touch of His hand on our hearts as assurance. His tender hand that washed the disciples’ feet is the same hand that was laid on the little children to bless them, laid on the lepers to cleanse them, and laid on the sick to lift them from their bed. His hands stretched out on the cross, pierced with nails, pouring forth Divine love. Our guilt-stained soul, desperate to answer for what we have done, though helpless to make restitution. Nothing can remove this stain; nothing but the blood of Jesus. His precious blood. His perfect love frees us from the bondage of sin that ties us down with its cords of enmity against God. The great manifestation of His love is that He has loosed us from our bondage with His own blood. Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one’s life for his friends. We are His friends if we do what He commands us (Jn. 15:13-14).
Do you believe that Jesus loves you and washes you from your sins? Have you accepted the undeniable fact that Jesus cares for you? The fact that He knows everything about you—the good and the bad. Immanuel, “God with us”, loves you just as you are. He has a place in His heart just for you. Only a pure and holy nature could love as He loves. Won’t you acknowledge this right now? Take a moment even now to revisit His outstretched arms on the cross, freeing you by His shed blood. You are no longer under the bondage of sin. Today is your day to break free from sin’s bondage and rest in His love, proven by His blood for “there is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel’s veins.”
