Thursday: All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name

Let every kindred, every tribe,
on this terrestrial ball,

[God our Savior] desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (I Tim. 2:4)

Sin had caused a falling out between God and man. Jesus Christ the Mediator gave Himself a ransom for all people—every race, every class—from royalty to the dregs. God wants men and women to go forth and experience first-hand the reality of His revealed truth. It gives Him great joy when one decides to stop groveling in the mud and mire of a life spent seeking the things this world has to offer. Instead, choosing to invest his life in things above, searching for God’s divine truth, loving it, separating himself from deception, continually relying on the Great I AM, the Mediator Jesus Christ. Such a one no longer wastes time on worthless pursuits but is storing up for himself treasure in heaven. He is becoming a beacon of light in a dark world, heeding Matthew’s exhortation to “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matt. 5:16).

The disfigured Elephant Man was a beacon of light when he painted a picture to share His faith with Alexandra, Princess of Wales. The Rev. E. P. Scott, a man living in tune with God’s truth, brought the gospel message to the Naga tribe in India with a hymn and a violin. Don Richardson helped the Sawi cannibals in New Guinea understand that Jesus is the perfect peace child, protecting their children from the tradition of child sacrifice. Bruchko introduced the Venezuelan Motilones to the Bible—God’s banana stalk, a legend this jungle village of warriors believed. He introduced Jesus through another legend concerning ants (people) and a giant (Jesus). When a Christian chooses to let their light shine, God can extend His love to lost sinners with a picture, a hymn, a tradition, a legend, and countless other ways. One person, living a life in accordance with divine truth, can become a lighthouse bringing hope and safety to a dark, tumultuous world.

Are you willing to answer His call and proclaim His truth? Are you willing to become a beacon of light in a dark world? Whether telling your kindred—spouse, children, relatives—or your neighborhood and co-workers or even on a distant mission field, won’t you lift up His name among those He places in your life today? Let every kindred, every tribe, on this terrestrial ball, to Him all majesty ascribe, and crown Him Lord of all!
