Listen to devotion

All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. (Matt. 11:27)

Father God alone knows His Son Jesus. Likewise, Jesus alone knows His Father. Jesus and whoever He reveals His Father to. The key word is “know.” To know is to have a personal, intimate relationship with someone or something. One can know about something or know of something—a distant knowledge or relationship with—not an intimacy. For example, one can know about Germany. Listen to stories from those who have been there; see pictures, watch videos, learn its history, find it on a map—see and hear of it. But never experience it. Not until one literally goes to Germany does he know it. To know Germany is to experience it first-hand. To smell the air, feel it on one’s skin, walk with the people who live there, eat their foods, absorb the sounds, the smells, the feel of the country. The shepherds went to see Jesus when they saw and heard the angel tell them about Him. The disciples left their former lives to follow Jesus when they heard Him say “Come, follow Me.” The shepherds found Jesus, the Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths. They smelled the barn, they touched Him, they talked with His mother. The disciples went with Jesus; they ate with Him, they experienced life with Him. They knew Jesus.

Many of us know about Jesus. We have heard of the things He has done, seen pictures, read about Him. But we have not intimately experienced Him. We have not surrendered our lives to Him, walked with Him, or experienced life with Him. We don’t know Jesus. First, we see and hear. First, we know about. Then we know. Anyone can know about Jesus but when we heed His call, we will know Him and He will unveil Himself to us. The Father gave His Son; the Son gave Himself. Now it is our choice to give or not to give ourselves to Him. When we give ourselves to Him, we will know Him; He will reveal Himself to us; we will know the Father and the Father will know us.

Do you hear Him calling you to “Come follow Me”? What is your response? Through personal, direct relationship you can know Him because you will have personal experience with Him. You shall know fully, even as you are fully known. When He unveils Himself to you, you will see Jesus. When you see Jesus, He will direct you toward His Father. Let your prayer this day be to know the “Son of God, love’s pure light, Radiant beams from Thy holy face.”
